How To Conserve Energy At Home

How To Conserve Energy At Home
Wasting energy does serious damage to your wallet and to the environment.
At Bright Right we strive to help conserve energy, that’s why our lights exclusively use solar panels to charge instead of wasteful replacements battery or needing electricity from your house.
For that reason I have some tips that are going to help reduce your energy usage and maybe even save you some money on electricity this month!

1. Consider Your Day-to-Day Behaviors

To eliminate unneeded energy use, you do not need to go out and buy energy saving products. There are some things that you can do to help save energy. This includes turning your lights off when you leave the room and turning off appliances when they are not in use. Appliances can also be unplugged when not in use as they are still sucking energy. To take it one step further, you can do some of your household tasks manually rather than with equipment. This could include air-drying your clothing instead of throwing them in the dryer or washing dishes by hand instead of the dishwasher.
This could even save you money in the long run. One way to help reduce the energy that is used is by turning your heat down in the winter and not using your air conditioning as much in the summer. Heating and cooling use a lot of energy and it costs a lot of money. Not only will this help save the planet but it also helps save the wallet.

2. Replace Light Bulbs

Your traditional light bulb is an incandescent bulb that uses a lot of energy that is not needed. There are a lot of energy efficient light bulb alternatives that can be used. Some of these include compact fluorescent lights, halogen incandescent lights, and even light-emitting diode bulbs. These lights are going to use up to 80 percent less electricity than the traditional bulb. Plus, these are going to last up to 25 times longer than a traditional bulb.
Energy efficient lights are going to be a bit more expensive when you buy them but they are going to last longer and use less energy which means they do save you money in the long run.

3. Smart Power Strips

The electricity that is used when an appliance is off or in a sleep mode is called a phantom load. This is going to be one of the biggest places that energy is used and wasted. According to studies, up to 75 percent of all electricity or energy used is from electronics that are off. Advanced or smart power strips are going to save you a lot of money and the planet. These strips are going to turn off the power supply to electronics that are not on. So, when an appliance is not in use there will be no power to the item. These strips can be set on a timer, used through a remote, or used with a switch.

4. Smart Thermostats

Smart thermostats are also known as programmable thermostats. These are ones that are able to be turned off by themselves when you sleep or are gone. They will automatically reduce the heating and cooling if you are not awake. When you install one of these you are reducing the amount of energy you use. Plus, you are not sacrificing comfort with this item either.
On average, a person can save about 200 dollars a year with this item. There are many different models and ways to program these. You can program them for weekly schedules. For example, when you are at work, the air conditioning will be programmed to keep it less cool and an hour before you arrive home it will cool it down more.

5. Energy Efficient Appliances

Appliances are going to account for about 13 percent of the household energy usage. When you buy an appliance, you should pay attention to two numbers. This would be the price it is to purchase it and the annual operating cost. Keep in mind that energy efficient appliances are going to be priced higher initially but they are going to save you money in the long run.
If you are purchasing an energy efficient appliance you should always look for the ENERGY STAR. This label is going to be a federal guarantee that it consumes less energy both during the usage and when it is in standby.
It is also smart to use solar items if at all possible. Replace outdoor lights on the patio or walkways with solar lights such as Bright Right to save a lot of energy. Solar lights use natural energy so you do not have to pay for this energy and you do not have to worry about wasting energy.
You are now ready to save the planet one step at a time!
